The Little town of Peyton was settled by George Peyton in 1888. By 1900, fifty people lived in Peyton. While farming and coal mining comprised the main occupations, supporting services included a blacksmith, physician, general store, creamery, hotel, and clergy. Joseph Zimmerman built a hall above a storage building attached to the Gates store. This meeting place hosted Odd Fellows, Modern Woodmen, elections, community dances, and fundraising events.

Today, Peyton is a very little town with a very small population. What is big, however, are the views of Pikes Peak – they are absolutely stunning, especially when the sun sets over the mountains in the fall. Peyton is the first stop for the IDR200 and IDR100 racers and is at the foot of some of the most beautiful farmland on the Front Range.
